Aromatherapy for Better Health

Are you looking for a pleasant way to help you to make positive changes in your life this year?  Try aromatherapy!
There are many ways to make use of essential oils, and aromatherapy is one of them.  An important point, though, is to choose an oil that's well-made.  I highly recommend steam-distilled brands.  Some essential oils are extracted using chemicals.  Those chemicals, unfortunately, end up in the little bottle with the fragrance.  Also, if there are artificial additives or preservatives, it's not a great idea to use them, especially if you intend to apply them to your skin.  Your skin is your largest organ, and it will absorb what you rub into it.
Once you find an essential oil brand that's well made, there are many ways to use them.  You can get a diffuser and release the fragrance into the air.  You can rub the oil into the back of your neck or your pulse points.  You can put a drop onto a cotton ball and place it near you.  If you happen to like massage and essential oils, you can bring your favorite to your massage therapist and ask him or her to use it with the massage lotion or oil.
According to an About.Com Psychology article by author and educator Kendra Cherry:
[T]he olfactory nerve is located very close to the amygdala, the area of the brain that is connected to the experience of emotion as well as emotional memory.  In addition, the olfactory nerve is very close to the hippocampus, which is associated with memory.
So, it isn't just your imagination that fragrance affects you emotionally, there is an actual biological connection.
If you're in pain, for example, use Clove or Deep Blue.  For sleep issues, Lavender is very effective.  If you're experiencing vertigo, Helichrysum and Ginger are excellent to alleviate that.  Black Pepper can be helpful with addictions.
If you do yoga, accompany your next session with Cedarwood.  Cinnamon is an anti-bacterial, Geranium purifies air, Thyme is an antioxidant, Wintergreen gets rid of dandruff, and the list goes on and on.
Investigate essential oils as a lovely and effective way to be happy and healthy.
