Did you know that stress occurs in the hypnotic state? What happens is, something occurs to which we react emotionally, and we conflate the event with our emotions about it. We can’t tell the difference between them. Hence, we believe that, as long as the event is true, we have no choice but to be stressed about it. Sadly, we can’t always control what happens in the world around us, but, fortunately, we can have an effect on the way we respond to it.
One of the best things you can do to release stress as soon as you experience it, is to acknowledge to yourself that whatever occurred and your emotions about it are two separate things. Once you're armed with that knowledge, you can make other choices to bring relief. Speaking comforting phrases often works wonders. “It’s okay,” or “I am safe,” are good ones. Trying laying the palm of your hand on the crown of your head, closing your eyes and breathing slowly and deeply for two minutes or more.
Whatever you choose to do, you will be empowered. Who wants to be a victim when you can be a victor instead?
