How Do You Talk to Yourself?

According to the Hypnosis Motivation Institute, approximately 25% of the population is suggestible to us at any given time, based on a number of factors. One person in that 25% is you. That’s right, you’re suggestible to yourself.
 
What this means is that what you tell yourself is more likely to be taken in as truth. Therefore, it’s very important to be careful how you talk to yourself.
 
If you know someone, for example, who says something like, “Flu season is coming. Every year I get sick,” chances are you also know someone who gets sick every year. Simply thinking such a thing makes it more likely to happen. Saying it gives it even more power.
 
Knowing that suggestibility works this way gives you a powerful edge. If, instead of having negative thoughts and giving them negative voice, you choose instead to turn it into a positive, you can actually change your life for the better. When you make a mistake, instead of smacking your forehead and saying, “I’m such an idiot,” try holding your forehead gently and saying, “I’m very intelligent. I make good choices.”
 
If you’re having a health issue with some part of your body, instead of thinking of yourself as sick or diseased, try placing your hand on that body part and instructing it to heal. The more specific your words are, the better. “Heal [the named disease or body part] now,” is one phrase you might use as you place your hand there and think of it. “Repair [this part or from this health issue] now,” is another.
 
Forgiveness is also very effective. Say you’re trying to lose weight, but you ate something that’s not on your diet. First, when you eat it, make a choice to enjoy it. The more positive your intention when you do, the better your body will use it. Second, forgive yourself for eating it. Let it go. It’s done now, there’s no benefit in dwelling on it negatively.
 

How you speak to yourself is very important. If you speak negatively, you’re just as suggestible as if you speak positively. Whichever you choose is what you’ll draw to yourself. If you choose the positive, you’ll be happier, healthier, and you’ll feel much more accomplished.
